I have a 02 regestered S80, I have had it into Volvo on many occasions, they have replaced a couple of parts and they insist that there is nothing wrong. However Sharp turns or going over speed bumps can produce a noise taht I can only describe as something loose, the car goes aou of warrenty end May and I want to get this resolved ASAP any suggestions.
Thanks

I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM AND HAD TO REPLACE THE STRUTS AND ONE STRUT TOWER. ONLY ONE STRUT WAS THE CULPRIT OF THE NOISE BUT WAS TOLD IT IS ALWAYS BEST TO REPLACE BOTH STRUTS FOR EVEN HANDLING. THIS ALSO REQUIRES AN ALLIGNMENT. I DID NOT HAVE THIS DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP. IT STILL COST ALMOST $800. THE DEALERSHIP WANTED ALMOST TWICE THAT. BUT THE SOUND WAS AS IF SOMTHING WAS LOOSE AND WOULD HAVE A KNOCKING SOUND WHICH WAS THE BAD STRUT "BOTOMMING OUT".
GOOD LUCK, JWL

Did you ever find out what your noise was in the front suspension. I have a similar problem with mine. I'v had almost everything replaced in the front, struts, strut plates, strut bushings, and strut links. The car rides fine, but when turning right and putting strain on the left front( this could be fast or slow) it sounds like rubber rubbing on metal, not a rattle but more of a creach. I'm taking mine to a dealer Tuesday, I'm just hoping they won't give me some astronomical amount to fix. It should be easy for them, the whole front end is nearly new except for the A arm and the stabilizer and bushings. Just curios as to what your problem came out to be??MIKEN wrote:I have a 02 regestered S80, I have had it into Volvo on many occasions, they have replaced a couple of parts and they insist that there is nothing wrong. Miken,
I had that sound. It turned out that the original owner had replaced the original equipment tires with upgrades that had a wider cross section. You can see where the tire rubs inside the well if your turn your tires and look in.

I have also had these suspension problems on 3 Volvo's. I have spent a considerable amount of money replacing some of the same parts you have mentioned but problems persists. I would describe the sound as a broken spring mattress.
I don't know if I told everyone, but my problem was the left rear subframe bushings. It was easy to diagnose because I had already replaced the struts, bushings, links, etc. The Volvo dealer only makes a rubber oring that goes on top of the subframe bushing to cure this squeking problem... sounds like another design flaw. They also replaced the subframe bolts. The bolts and orings were only about $40 but I let them do it for a total of $350Anonymous wrote:I have also had these suspension problems on 3 Volvo's.
