Re: S80 T6 exhaust smoke
I have not managed to get any codes out of her yet, but I have a lot in store for her this evening. i will check the codes again. I appreciate boosted5cyl's responses to my information and like his answers. And you SURE went over my head, until I spent the day at the office reading. I am moving in the right direction you are sending me in. My intake gasket will arrive tomorrow and then I will tackle the PCV. I plan on pulling the intake tonight after I test more and inspect more. I have new screens for the injectors and plan on cleaning them and replacing the screens tonight if time allows. picked up NGK6962's at lunch (simple copper plugs) new fuel filter and some more vacumme line ( i was about 3 inches short ) Bank 1 isn't firing properly, bank 2 is a little rich. Will elaborate more later tonight...time to go and get started!

Well, you got me on the fuel trim....but I understand more about it today. Daylight got me last night, and I only managed to get the plugs gapped correctly and installed. I laid out a coilpack test using ohm and diode measurements for the packs and everyone of them came out within what I would consider reasonable variances. I will share this information with the forum as soon as I finish the powerpoint slide, and convert it to an image

Making some headway..today. I have all of the vacuume lines replaced, new plugs, and a quick smoke test...
I now have some new information. first off, I can not pull any of the codes with my OBDII reader. I cant be sure if it's the computer or the reader. I will have to find another one to see if it can extract them.
I now have a Service engine light and a No oil pressure, stop Engine message. I could have a vacuume line wrong, but I was pretty sure I got them right. I did get the gasket today and I am going after the PCV tank for a good cleaning...1st question is,.. Think my Actron OBD Scanner can read the codes? 2nd is Is the Computer on life support?. 3rd Question is, Since I can now see the intake gasket outer edges and it looks as new and clean as the rest of the engine, is it possible that a previous owner probably already had it serviced (PCV)...which I am doubting. The gasket looks brown in color like a brown paper bag and the new one is grey semimetalic. ( I know that doesnt mean anything significant) It may need some oil now and that could be the cause of the no oil mesage, but until I get the PCV tank service done, I am just spinning my wheels. Time to read the forums some more...

If it says no oil, I would be worried that perhaps the oil pump in not working...
Can't remember which of the Volvo's can also have a problem with the oil pick. Something to do with an 'o'ring 'getting out of place'.
Not sure how you would check oil pressure???

There's a series of orings in the pickup system that supposedly go hard and cause the pump to suck in some air with the oil leading to lower oil pressure at idle.

Hey boosted, Good morning. I would really like to talk to you. I decided to get the PCV canister off today and I havi it done this morning already. Not bad for the first time I ever worked on a volvo. 2 1/2 hours and I have pics of the valve stems in the intake ports. The PCV tank looks like its original and no oil in it other than dried residu, However, I found a clog in the connetion from the tank into the intake, and oil is seeping out of the fitting after i removed it, definitely oil in the intake where it connects. I pushed a hard gunky ball out of the stem and cleaned it out. ( out of focus pic, but you know what I mean. you can see the rounded clump in the picture. [email protected], if you can do a phone conversation and it you rather not, thats fine no harm. check the pic and say, yep, there's your smoke. I am just prolonging the turbo possibility for today.
and It needs an oil change for sure. I am not running it over 3 mins at any point just yet.
No lights other than oil. I cleared the service light. Message center...Coolant and No oil pressure.....and the service SRS airbag. yada yada... not my biggest concern right now

Oh boy... I remember when I replaced that thing! Make sure your vaccuum lines are in good shape! I have the same year and model as yours and mine is running poorly too. I replaced a lot of things like the pcv oil trap, throttle body (yellow label), vaccum lines, spark plugs, tested coils, replaced purge valve, etc.. Now I'm going to check the turbos.. I'm just testing the system. It goes like this: ECU - Boost pressure sensor - boost valve - turbo... I'm hoping my ECU is not acting up and my boost valve looks new since the first day i got the car so I'm gonna go for the boost pressure sensor. That might be the problem for hesitation and losing power. You should check those item just in case. Hope this helps!

Thanks, that was encoraging...( To part the cart out)..LoL My next step is to get the exhaust disconnected and see which side is pushing the oil. i did notice oil in/on the tail pipe. The car idles smooth although that can be deceptive, and I haven't found an OBD reader that can pull any codes out of her yet. Mine is probably not able to do it. friends can't either. I put her all back together yesterday and as soon as the fuel rail pressurized, she fired right off. Idled smoothly, and quiet, started dusting mosquitos within a minute. I checked the oil fill and voila, I have the same white smoke just less severe. Glad I bought it to tinker, cause thats what I am doing. I replaced every piece of rubber on the front side and just noticed today in a picture that it looks like I have some turbo plumbing with JB weld on it. May be an optical illusion, maybe not. I do have that pretty Yellow label too so I am at least not too far off...argh. If these storms would give me a break I can continue. hey...it's paid for...that's a good thing...Electronics in my thing, and I have tested sensors but can't simulate every condition. I will most likely have to strip it all down and start over with my luck. I have plenty of oil reaching the top end, but I have a no oil pressure message, so I have "o" rings and oil pumps and oil pans dancing in my head..It took me about 30 minutes to fix a Plasma TV power supply tonight and I didn't get one drop of oil on my hands. Wished this Volvo was that easy, but then again, where's the challenge...
