I believe you can get this message if one of a pair of bulbs has a slightly different current draw than the other. Thus it is often recommended that bulbs be changed in pairs if one is found to be burnt out. I guess this does not apply if you are certain that both bulbs of a pair are identical. Perhaps an resistance measurement is needed but I don't know how close to be 'identical' the resistance (and corresponding current draw) has to be....

Perhaps it the bulb that has a light lite under driving conditions then once you hit the brake another filament in the same bulb is failing to light. Test the rear lights with the brake off then on. You'll see which one isn't working.

I had a position light message about six months ago and, never did find out what was going on. About three months ago my right HID headlight started acting up and would get stuck beaming down. Could reset the position by turning the light switch off for a few seconds then back on. Just recently on a cross state trip to Eastern Washington both headlights failed with maximum beam down. Since I do carry tools, I stopped alongside the road and played around with the headlight adjustment which I had found three months earlier so I could limp home with the headlights on high beam as they were. Looking for a solution found that the auto headlight leveling system uses inputs from front and, rear variable resistors mounted on one front and, one rear strut. I also suspect that from looking at electrical schematics on MAT's site, that the ISM (Inclination sensor module) might be in the works as well. Can not locate the ISM, does anyone know exactly where it is located ? Meanwhile I have ordered a pair of halogen OEM headlight assemblies.

Here is a file from VADIS regarding the inclination sensor which is part of the rear electronic module.
Hope this helps. Let us know how you make out...

If you need other files referred to in this file, let me/us know and I can upload other files.

This is done from the trunk, open the trouts and on the left side is a panel, remove to access bulbs

Hello all, am back with my issue regarding the message " bulb failure position light". All electrical fuses and bulbs work fine but message still remains. Could it be a fault with the CEM? And do i need a software reload? Don't want to do this if it will cause any other problems. Any advice on this please
