ETM... 2001 S60 T5

Post by highmiles »

This is a car my son normally drives, he related that he has gotten the "urgent service" message a few times related to full throttle and accompanied by no brake boost (a secondary issue I think.)

He dropped the car off to me for evaluation. I was able to recreate the issue very easily. I aggravated it enough to go into full limp mode. Stopped the car, read codes (generic reader,) and got P0121. Erased codes (as best a generic can...) shut the car off, cycled the key a few times to cycle the throttle body and then restarted. Warning light still on, but back to running fine. Avoided full throttle and car was fine for the rest of the half hour commute.

I had VIDA (clone) when I rebuilt the top half of the motor (bought with broken timing belt due to water pump failure) but it no longer seems to be functioning.

It seems like route that would be cost effective and not require reprogramming would be to install the Sacer contactless TPS. Though that appears to be time intensive.

I found this ETM currently on ebay, but is seems questionable if it would be plug and play or not. Thoughts on that?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts, opinions and guidance. Unless I get a thumbs up on the ebay unit being plug and play I will likely go the Sacer route.

That is a Xmodex rebuilt unit on eBay, the warranty does not transfer. It’s also filthy so that seller isn’t much of a wrench

Check your brake booster ejector , it’s a black plastic valve in the vacuum lines. They fly apart with age and the resulting vacuum leak will kill your brake boost as well as cause limp mode , potentially.

I’m a big fan of the late, white label ETM built my Volvo, part number is in this forum. Note that eBay vendors will put that part number in to their description to catch your search then sell you the used crap they pull off a junkyard car , Caveat emptor

Here a listing text

“ Throttle Body Assembly 36050563 8644347 8644344 For Volvo C70 S60 S70 S80 V70”

Well, which one is it? You blurred the picture so you can’t read the label, and those three part numbers are three different manufactured pieces.
