Car just dies

Post by colin »

Help. My 1991 740 turbo wagon just started dying. I'll be driving for about 30 minutes when it just cuts out. It will start right up and idle and rev without problems, but when I put it in drive it just cuts out before I can even give it gas. I towed it to a volvo garage and the problem was happening for him. He replaced the relays, payed with the fuel pump, tuned it some, but it didn't help. Then all of a sudden the problem went away and wouldn't duplicate. I took the car home and it cut out again the next day. I'm having to tow it again. Any suggestions?

I'd start looking at the thorottle switch :o
Make sure it's tuned.
Clean the throttle body with carb cleaner (make sure no solvent gets in the manifold).
Check the ICV too.

I had something similar happen on my 86 wagon, it ended up being the air mass meter, but as the mechanic said, it could have been any one of 36 things that could go wrong.
