89 740GL wagon brake lights don't work

Post by JKuhns »

I have check the fuse, the connection on the switch attached to the brake pedal and I took the panels off behind the light and checked to be sure all connections were secure. The rear fog lights work (same lights I think) but no brake lights. Any ideas?

 disassemble inserts from taillight body. use x-fine sandpaper or steel wool (I used a Dremel tool with small wire brush) to clean contact strip on light body, and contacts on holder. We fixed all on our 88 wagon this way.

I tried sanding down the contacts and changing light bulbs. I took the car to my auto mechanics shop at my school, I'm a teacher and we tried totrace the wires. We found that there was power in the wires behind the switch behind the brake pedal. There was no power in the wire that turned on the brake light in the tail of the vehicle, the rear lights worked fine, no brake lights. I had to resort to taking the car to the dealer. The integrity sensor was broken, $107, and 2 hours later I was into it for $257.
I now have brake lights but I had to go the route I was hoping not to go. Hope this helps someone in the future.
