2013 volvo xc 60 3.2 oil change

Post by 2forty »

My low engine oil message appeared. The dip stick read about a half quart low so with 7000 miles on the oil I changed it. What concerned me was all the oil did not drain out from the filter container. It was about half full. I always pull the cap then the drain plug. Is that a concern?
I test drove the car and no messages appeared.

I always unscrew the oil filter cap to break the vacuum and then go under and drain the oil. If the oil filter cap was still sealing the housing it may not let it drain back. It's a good 1/2 qrt of dirty oil left. Also I believe these 3.2 have a oil level sensor that may get gunk and stick.

Half quart low from the "max" mark or from "min"? How many miles you have on this car? Agree with above comment about possible low pressure sensor possibly being an issue. 3.2 or 3.0 are great engines and changing oil is relatively easy. Get yourself a vaccum oil extractor and change it every 5k. With vaccum extractor please note how many quarts(liters) you remove. If you are within 7 quarts-you good to go(if your oil is near "max" prior to start of the procedure. ).

The stopper (anti drain valve) is a known problem

FORD will sell you a new one, let me know if you need help finding the part number

Here is the path that the oil should take when the filter is removed and the stopper lifts up

And here is what it looks like with the stopper attached to the metal spring underneath the oil filter

Take some pictures and let us know what you are working with

Good luck
