I have been getting my S60 serviced at the local dealership and am in need of a 70k service. However, when I went to schedule an appointment, I was confronted with a price tag of $420 for the following list:
1) Volvo Genuine Service
Alternative Transportation
Roadside Assistance
Personal Service Contact
*Lifetime Replacement Parts and Labor Warranty
2) Maintenance Service
Automatic transmission shift control - Check for correct function
Parking brake - Check for correct function
External lighting - Check for correct function
Horn - Check for correct function
Washers and wipers for windshield and headlamps - Check for correct function. Check for wear
Seat belts - Check for correct function. Check for wear
Engine oil- Replace engine oil with Synthetic oil. Replace the oil filter
Wheels and tires- Check for damage and measure tread depth
Brake pads and brake discs - Check for correct function and measure wear
Fluid levels in the engine compartment - Check and adjust (where needed) brake fluid, power steering fluid, washer fluid, engine coolant
Engine coolant - Check and adjust (when needed) the antifreeze/corrosion protection rating
SRI - set the service reminder indicator
3) Cleaning inside of windscreen for cars with collision warning camera
That seems like a pretty steep price for basically an oil/filter change and looking at some physical things (i.e., doesn't appear to be accessing any electronics/diagnostics).
When I had a '97 850 GLT wagon, I used a very reliable independent shop when I couldn't do the job myself.
Now, I do realize that this S60 has a lot more bells and whistles, but surely the independent can satisfactorily perform the maintenance service?
Am I missing something?
[2018 S60 T5 AWD] 70k service is really this much?

If you're not seeing any dash lights and can check fluid levels, that is exactly a $420 oil change. Look for an indie Volvo shop.

An indie would do all that in one hour, so $150 plus oil filter = $200
You can probably get $10 for the used oil if you get it up to Calgary ….
