2012 S60 T5 misfire
2012 S60 T5 misfire
2012 S60 T5 misfire 4 & 5 and random, , put 5 new spark plugs, and 5 new coil packs, now codes for 5 and random. did compression was good, getting spark so I'm thinking a fuel issue, used lucas FI cleaner, no change, bad injector? and.... just bought the car, was a lease vehicle at volvo dealership, high miles 155k everything looks original but hard to say at least they did the T belt at 112k
Major major problems with this car. The higher the miles the worse it gets.
Volvo has issued TJ29871-2015-02-05. It has to do with oil burning in the S60 T5 (specifically the 2012 model). If in Warranty they just fix, but the problem usually happens out of warranty. Goodwill is on a case by case basis. The TJ calls for replacing the piston rings and switching to full synthetic. If that doesn't work, they are replacing the engines. You can find more instances of this by just Googling. There appears to be something defective with the piston rings on this year/make/model. Could be why you are having a misfire. Others are losing compression. Others are having clogged PCV's from blow by while others are just burning oil. If the PCV/breather gets clogged then it burns oil very quickly.
How did the plugs look when you pulled them?
So back to the piston rings. Good chance they are shot and you are getting a bad mixture. Others are reporting good compression but the car is still burning oil. So, would see if you are burning oil as well? Some reporting a few quarts in a few days. Some report a quart about every 3,000 miles. The TJ is for engine code 62, chassis range (last 6 of the VIN) between 0017819-0170117 and a structure week between 201046-201219. So if it burns oil, Then it fouls spark plugs. Then it could cause buildup in valves causing low compression causing misfires. But your compression is good, but it could still be bad.

Others are reporting issues with burning oil and Volvo is also giving Goodwill Assistance (new piston rings and / or new engines). You should take it to a local Volvo dealer to have them diagnose and possibly open a case with VCNA. Most likely you will have to fight Volvo for it. Don't give up. There is a major problem with these cars.

By the way, trend is for people to get out of this car. I will probably replace the engine with another defective one that still runs. I will feel bad about whoever they pawn it of me on. I was about to buy my second Volvo until this issue happened on mine and Volvo denied Goodwill. Buyer beware.
Well turns out there is no compression in # 4 , going to put a low mileage engine out of a wrecked car in it , not happy, very dissapointed in Volvo, I ve been driving the wagons from the get go,1992, 1998, 1999 v70 t5 2001 v70 xc vmy fav was 2004 v70R traded it in for a 2010 new v70xc hated it took it back 6 months later and traded it in for a new saab 93 conv.......I may be done with Volvos
I would HIGHLY recommend you open a case with Volvo Car North America. It's the only way to document this issue and get them to provide any Goodwill Assistance.kerico1 wrote:Well turns out there is no compression in # 4 , going to put a low mileage engine out of a wrecked car in it , not happy, very dissapointed in Volvo, I ve been driving the wagons from the get go,1992, 1998, 1999 v70 t5 2001 v70 xc vmy fav was 2004 v70R traded it in for a 2010 new v70xc hated it took it back 6 months later and traded it in for a new saab 93 conv.......I may be done with Volvos
