Hi! I have a 2011 Volvo XC70 T6 that I've owned for about 5 years now. There has been basically no AC since I've owned it and I've always put it off every summer, but this summer I'm just about over it and looking to fix it.
So far, the issue has eluded 2 shops I went to, two master mechanic friends I've confided with also myself. I'm by no means a mechanic, but I also am pretty good at doing my own repairs and troubleshooting.
So far these are the things I've checked:
- Radiator fans - they work and engage when the AC is turned on
- All fuses for controls, switches, components related to climate and AC, etc. none are blown
- Condenser clutch kicks in when the AC is engaged
- Condenser has no leaks or observable damage
- Condenser and the lines are charged
- Fans inside blow full speed just fine and the speed can be adjusted at the controls fine
- Auto climate doesn't work, however, because overall no cold air comes out regardless
- When driving for a long time continuously the air is slightly cooler, but not by much. Recirculate or pull through air setting seems to make no difference.
One specialty euro shop said it was a CCM pulled from one Volvo and put in mine, but that it was never "married" to the car. But when I went back to that shop again they said it was the compressor. Could this be a bad CCM? If it responds to fan speed adjustments does that mean it's still good? Or half is good and the other half is bad? I also don't have heat, so this gives me suspicion it could be the CCM as well, but I haven't been able to troubleshoot any of the heating components so it's an assumption on my end.
What gives, what am I missing? What did I check wrong?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you have no heat and no cold and you possibly have not original climate control unit, I would suggest to bring to dealer and pay diag fee($200 would be my guess). You can buy a clone of vida or other scanner(at minimum $120) and try to read the codes, but with "not native" CCM you will have ton of codes that can send you down the rabbit hole.
In a mean time you can do the basics and check/replace cabin air filter, check/clean ac condenser if blocked with bugs/debris. In terms of heat it is also can be a hard issue. Maybe it is thermostat that is stuck open, maybe your heater core is restricted...Well all are not happy with dealer prices, but at times it is cheaper to pay professional 1 time than to throw ton on unnecessary parts and at the end still come to professionals..

Thermostat and sensor are new, radiator is new, and the radiator fan and control module is new as well. Didn't see much debris on the condenser either. Both times I've replaced the cabin air filter it was quite clean, but a new one went in anyways and still no luck there either.Vova585 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2025, 08:32 If you have no heat and no cold and you possibly have not original climate control unit, I would suggest to bring to dealer and pay diag fee($200 would be my guess). Are the services where you send in your CCM to have it programmed to your car reputable? Should I try that avenue?

You can always check with Xemodex. They would probably give you the most accurate information what needs to be done and probably would be able to "write" your vin to the CCM so it can communicate properly with BCM. I never had to deal with such issue, so wpuld be interested to hear what was your solution.
