Build date 6/1998. Very late 1998 model...woo hoo..that probably means mechanical tensioner

Engine B5254S serial 1412483

Car recovered from field in VT. Not run in 2 years

180,000 miles SEP 2020

To be evaluated for recovery or parts.

Body damage to left rear fender and wheel arch from rust.

Towed home, installed battery.

Engine starts and runs. No codes.
Idled for 30 minutes, changed oil to Penzoil Dino to remove water

No crank condition, battery drain?

Alternator light came on
Dumped PS fluid
Fuel filter area bad gas leak
Oil seep at cams.

Brakes crusty
Steering extremely heavy, not just lack of PS. Frozen rack?

Steering Rack seal Kits run ~$50.00. Overhaul and have like new ?

Thanks Rick. The rack on this one is awful but I have a TRW on the other car which leaks.

Rack doctors $250 with lifetime

Replaced fuel filter
Replaced rollover valve fuel line with aftermarket
Timing belt, idler, tensioner, water pump replaced

Alternator brushes replaced

Both steering knuckles, lower control arms, struts , sway bar links replaced with used parts

Heater core bypassed, core is leaking

Cleaned up and installed front brakes. Good pads on front , almost new
Pushed 250 ml fluid through each caliper

Driver side caliper pins aftermarket and heavily corroded, cleaned and greased

Need 10 mm rotor holds
Final torque front suspension
Front axle 36 mm nuts
Alternator and bracket reinstall
Heater core reinstall

Reinstalled timing belt cover, serp belt , alternator, ps pump

Used reinstall trick to replace serp belt.

Removed tensioner, 2 M8 bolts , tensioned and pinned with 3.5mm Allen key in vice

Reinstalled and threaded belt.

Alternator replaced

Fuel leak resolved

New serp belt and better used tensioner. Serp belt brutally tight, ran all accessories without tensioner. Installed tensioner. Had to bolt bottom first, then top.

Heater core replaced, tested for leaks. ALl good, great heat.

Checked front end torques

Grunhilde is rolling again!!!
