New super-improved Repair Database

Back on Track with the VRD

Once again, the Volvo Repair Database system works more or less how I want it to. For instance, when you go to the VRD Categories page, you see this:

Image

Then for example you clicked on the Climate Control, AC, Pollen Filter, Evap, Heater Core link, you'd go to a page with just excerpts from that Category's contents on it. Ten of them, to be exact.

And at the bottom of the 10 posts is a link that will take you back to the older posts in that category. Those look like this:
← Older posts Body, Exterior Trim, Wipers, Glass, Bumpers, Mudguards posts.

That allows you to browse back and forth between pages of posts within that Category.

Same thing goes for Volvo Car Models section of the Volvo Repair Database. It works the same way.

I'm working to defeat the 10 post limit and have an "everything" page, per category. In the meantime, use the search bar on the right side of the pages, that's your best bet.

Remember

A) if you just want the big old list, there's always the Everything page, and

B) the Volvo Repair Database link is always at the top of each page no matter where you are on MVS.

Hey Matt,

Any future plans to add a parts list by series or is that too much data that may compromise your system?
Oh, yeah! much better.

Juan, that's a great idea. The problem wouldn't be the amount of data, it would be how to get it.

_part #
_description
_whatever else

... for any given model. Anyone know where such info exists?

Definitely a huge undertaking.

You could prowl through every parts list in VADIS forever. Just for the 850 series alone, that would be a huge list - then you've also got 240s, 740s, 740 16v's, 760 v6's, 940s, 960's different between years, P2 models...

It might be worthwhile working with the online parts vendors to come up with some sort of list.

I could never do it manually. That would take months. These cars have thousands of parts.

What I'd need is a list in any format, or partial lists that I could build off of in the future.

Here's a Volvo blog post I just wrote that will hopefully get wider attention on what I've termed the Volvo Parts Number Project.

While I think this is a useful idea, the volvopartswebstore is easy enough to use and has everything we would need. I feel like it may be a waste of time to spend on it, unless you can get a manufacture to send lists, it wouldn't be worth it.
