Descriptive Information : After ongoing quality testing, inspection and assurance reviews of 6 Ton Heavy Duty Steel Jack Stands manufactured by Jiaxing Golden Roc Tools Co., Ltd
(exported by Shanghai Shen Da Import and Export Co Ltd.), it was determined
that product quality had become inconsistent due to aging of the tooling. All jack
stands imported from the manufacturer as part number 61197 are included in
the recall population. Although we believe this issue arose in more recent
production batches, because we are not able confirm that earlier production
units do not have this issue, out of an abundance of caution we are recalling all
units prior to the recall date.

Harbor Freight Tools sells 6 ton jack stands made by other manufacturers, and
we are in the process of evaluating those other jack stands. However, their
evaluation has been delayed by the work restrictions caused by COVID-19. We
have reviewed the history of any customer incidents for the jack stands produced
by the other manufacturers and found that there have not been any other claims
exhibiting the defect. Harbor Freight Tools will update this report after the
review of the 6 ton jack stands produced by our other manufacturers.

I bought a set of 6 ton there in December but apparently I got a different lot number.

Good. Keep an eye on this in case they expand it. I'll keep an eye out.

Our family friend, a dad of 3 girls, died under his MG while working on it, circa 1990. I've mentioned this here before a few times. Don't mean to overdo it. Just a reminder to all.

I asked the dude at HF years ago why they have several lot numbers for the same thing... He said they have several manufacturers making the same part, so each manufacturer is assigned a different lot number.

I used to have those metal ramps from HF. First time I drove up on them they collapsed a bit. Used them for a while but always had a jackstand somewhere in there for piece of mind. Finally tossed them and bought Rhinoramps instead.
They sell a lot of $hitty products and apparently also fatally bad ones.

Returned my Quick Jacks from Costco. Squeaking and son always put jack stands (only have 2) under the front or rear just in case. Almost purchase 2 sets of the HF units for greater weight capacity and height but have always thought there was a possibility them coming down if you bump the handle wrong. I did some research and price comparison and found some with safeties on Amazon so purchased 2 sets of them instead. Remembered the old round ones with the pin.

For each side, I always use 2 jack stands:

- One 4-leg jack stand (the weakest point of this jack is always at the welding seam, search youtube for test on it using hydraulic press).

- One screw jack stand, cranked up so it shares 50% of the load.

This video is extreme (hydraulic press), but you can see if any part that fails first, it is the welding seam...

I bought a pair of Esco jackstands shortly after I got my first 850. I love the heavy duty
rubber pad on top and the pin style height adjustment:
