Which VIDA/DICE unit to buy?

Post by beewstew »

Working on a 2004 XC70 - need to diagnose an OBD camshaft position code and reset the airbags after fuel pump work. I installed the volvodiag VMWare image and tried to connect to the car via a generic Amazon J2534 connector. That didn't work.

Now wondering about the "2014d" clones on ebay like https://www.ebay.com/itm/365461556440 - they certainly look like good fakes.

Are these good-enough to use with the volvodiag 2014d vmware images? Is there some magic foo, config, driver, or update I need to run on the VMware to get the system to recognize a VIDA/DICE device?

Your link isn’t working for me. Years ago I bought a $80 clone knockoff. Still going well. Not sure what the current tariffs might do to the price though. Might want to wait a bit.

This is like what I bought. When I got mine they were touting the circuit board being an exact copy
of the Volvo dice The software part of it all is the difficulty. This forum or Facebook have really good helpful tips. Or buy a laptop with it already installed.

https://www.vxdas.com/products/vxdiag-v ... -for-volvo

i use that one, the volvodiag image is made to work with it out of the box, just have to remember to enable the device in the virtual machine.

they look like good fakes on the outside, on the inside the board is completely different, i couldn't get mine to work, and then it burned up when i connected a 12 volt power supply
