Volvo Repair Database Exhaust mod

Post by JRL »

This: My 99 T5M with a EST exhaust went from this:

To THIS: (Rear resonator removed)

It sounds great. Not loud at all, with no droning whatsoever and now sounds like it should have sounded in the first place!

Similar but a bit different.
This is removal of the rear resonator on an aftermarket exhaust, not the center on a OEM system.
For the life of me, I don't understand why they can't make a reasonable sounding aftermarket exhaustsystem for a Volvo.
They're always WAY too quiet, or dumbly loud and boomy (like IPD's new one, combined with their DP).
This is PERFECT

I hate to be dumb, but what did you replace the rear resonator with? My V70 is too noisy, and your suggestion may solve the problem. Thanks.

Huh?
Straight pipe,
that will make yours even louder
It would help to post what year and model (engine) V70 yours is and what exhaust is there now

Yes, I have a 1998 V70 with a B5254S 168hp engine and 140K miles. Recently replaced the muffler, catalytic converter and all pipe with Bosal stuff, but put in by my local shop who did a crap job. It sounds loud and rumbles, and I am looking for quiet and smooth. I have had Midas check for leaks, and they found none. I have looked for leaks and found none. And the original shop looked and found no problems, even though they admitted it sounded louder than when they replaced it last Nov.
My car looks great and runs well, but could be better sounding. I think the aftermarket resonator that was put in is crap and is part of the problem. I would never buy another Bosal muffler, but this is after the fact. Your T5 is very nice, and any suggestions you have for me are appreciated.

The only ones that are very quiet is the OEM Volvo system.
You will have to try to find a "quiet" muffler that will fit where the otherone is now

Does removing the rear resonator and replacing with straight pipe increase hp?
Also is there any sensor in the resonator (sorry for the newb question there)
what benefits other than sound? sorry for being so dense here people but yeah lol

Im really looking to get more power/effiency when not in the gas, from my exhaust intake, while coupled with the ecu upgrade i understand is the only real way to get the power from the intake and exhaust.
