Hello,
I'm left scratching my head on this one. All of a sudden my windshield wipers started making this horrible noise. I assumed it was the wiper blades and changed them, but it's still making the noise. I flipped the wiper blades up in the video to show it's not them. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
Car is a 2000 Volvo V40 1.9L Turbo Wagon.

.
Getting under the cowl and lubricate is about all you can do to troubleshoot at this time.

I was planning on removing the cowl and replacing the linkage. I've been reading things online that says the rubber bushings are probably shot, and the age of the car is 24 years old. I'm probably going to snap every plastic cowl clip so I'll add that to the list also. I will report back as to my findings. I really hope its not the wiper motor but it seems to be operating fine, just that horrible noise.
Thanks for the reply and suggestion.

Follow up 4/8/2024:
I narrowed it down to the wiper linkage and replaced it. Due to the age of the vehicle OEM was not an option. I decided to order PROFESSIONAL PARTS SWEDEN from RockAuto. Surprisingly everything fit pretty well. The only thing I noticed was where the wiper motor bolts to the linkage their were no groves just flat metal, picture below for reference of what was missing. The OEM part had the groves on the end of the linkage where it bolted to the wiper motor.
