I was doing a drain and fill on my transmission.
With the long funnel and quart bottle I had sitting in it, it was above the horizontal plane of where the hood closes. I went to get another quart, wind blew, hood slammed shut, and now can’t open probably because of the upward pressure of everything underneath pushing upwards. I had my wife pulling on hood release while I was gently pushing and pulling on hood edge and no go. I’ve removed the air dam underneath and can get up there with my hand to move the fIshook latch but doesn’t do anything. Anyideas on how I can open this would be greatly appreciated, also any humor on this boneheaded move would also help at this point. Anyone who has my phone # don’t call because my phone was sitting in there by the latch also. Thanks, G.G. ‘06 Volvo V70 that has nice paint that I’m trying to preserve.

Had to laugh, first time I read it I thought you said you had your wife under the car trying to push up from underneath.
Does your 06 only have one hood strut? My 06 has but one & it drives me absolutely bonkers. All the other cars have them on both sides, and you know as well as I which cars have hoods that stay up.

I decided to put my shoulder into, hoping not break the cable or release handle and luckily it popped open. Yup, I have the one hood strut/ no rear swaybar model. Hood stays up when up on ramps but on flat ground I've taken some good shot to head, that insulation pad underneath the hood isn't just for noise. I'm going to check the pass side hood hinge to see if there's a ball stud, so I can add another one. Glenn

There's no ball over there, almost guarantee it. Have to get the entire hinge if you want a strut on that side.

I turn my hood “bump stops” in all the way. It helps in the arctic temps. Just rear of the leading edge of hood, left side & right, about an inch & 12.25/49” round rubber bumper plug lookin thing.
In winter I cringe every time I reach to pull the hood lever. If I can, I always try to get the entire engine bay hot before pulling the lever. Of course, this requires being able to start the engine, or a Russian block heater works too (campfire under oil pan).

That’s so humiliating when you have to drag the SO into your car mess.
You have the weekend to fix it though, the car can wait.
See you in Red county sometime. ( local humor)
