Volvo Repair Database ABS woes

Post by chris11211 »

Pass by a volvo mechanic today in order to figure out once and for all what exactly is wrong with my ABS. And it turns out one of the codes i got is a 0070, which means that xemodex wants both the computer and the pump to be repaired.

The mechanic also told me that I should just get the pump from somewhere else instead and save a bit. Either way it seems like it'll come out to $750 , but i'm just asking you guys for some confirmation or second opinion on what should I do, or should i just leave it at that, thanks.

My 2005 2.5t AWD took an ABS module and pump soon after I bought it 2 1/2 years ago. My shop sends stuff to Zemodex and is happy with their work.
I'm happy that I don't see an ABS light since the repair. Not thrilled at the cost of some of the Volvo repairs, but that's the way it is.
My shop also gave me the option of seeing an ABS warning daily, I just had them fix it.

Alright, I've done some digging on BCM-0070, and I discovered that you could change out the black motor piece on top. So, I was wondering if it needs to be the exact serial number or are the pumps backward/forward compatible with each other?

I'm gonna get the whole ABS assembly on ebay, and I wanted to know if someone changed the pump first, or should they send the module to clone? To see if it'll solve the ABS system.

I don’t think the pump has any CANBUS connections which means it’s pure analog and won’t be VIN pinned.

The module could be but I don’t think it is either.

I’ve got an intermittent BCM 700 on my P2 which I will deal with when I can get it to fault at home, every time I travel it fixes itself.

You have CEM communication errors with modules on both CAN-buses. There's also a low voltage code that may be trigger those errors (it can erase memory in modules and brick them in fact).

I would suggest to erase the codes, let it run until ABS error raises again and then re-read the codes. If communication errors persist for both CAN-buses you may have a problem with CEM, or two or more failing modules on both CAN-buses.

Update!

So after replacing the abs motor to deal with BCM-0070, apparently I now have abs after a year of ownership. Not sure what else I should look after, but I now get vibrations on the pedal when I hard stop in the rain. Post more if it comes back.

Thanks for the info in this thread. I started getting a BCM-0070 this weekend after the car got hot, but only upon starting again after parking for a few minutes. No other errors. I pulled an ABS pump from a 06 S60 on the way home today and swapped it out with the goal of taking mine apart to take a peek in it and see about replacing the brushes. Well when I pulled mine off it came apart with the little bearing too. I used the YouTube video by XeMODeX to angle the little bearing back into place after cleaning and greasing it. Here are some pictures of the inside of the pump in case they haven’t been posted before..

Nice! Did you replace the brushes? What do you think set of the ABS error? What did you clean/re-grease?

For the 2x I got the ABS error on my dash. First time was about 3 years ago, swapped with a used ABS motor, error gone. I just got the same ABS light on my dash and scanned with VIDA, BCM-0700 fault code. I went to the pick and pull yesterday and grabbed another motor.

I just swapped out the motor at this point and took it on a few test runs. It’s cleared my error for the time being. I’ve got to source the brushes. They look to be 5mm x 5mm square. Not sure of the depth yet. I also want to source the bearing at the bottom. The top in the cap, as you can see is not a bearing. So when I can get those and clean up the copper I’ll put it back together and wait for the error to happen again w/ the pick a part motor and do the swap.
