VIDA 2015 does not work with DiCE clones

Post by leapdragon »

So in my quest to create my own key fob for a 2007 XC70, I downloaded VIDA 2015 and bought a 3-day subscription.

I had already programmed the fob successfully using VDASH but all features around CEM PIN cracking seem to have been removed for anyone below Pro level ($400/year) so I was unable to program the key itself.

So I thought I'd use "official" VIDA to program the key using a 3-day subscription, since I'd seen posts saying that others had done it successfully, including with clone DiCE units, as recently as earlier this year.

I can report that though I was able to successfully buy a 3-day subscription and get VIDA 2015 logging in just fine, it refuses to talk, saying "Unsupported DiCE device" when I try to connect.

I now have 3 days to see if I can find a non-hacked 2014D version somewhere, get it installed, and get it talking. Not optimistic.

But for anyone wondering, the DiCE clones are indeed being blocked in VIDA 2015. Or at least some of them are.

Bummer.
So your fob works but the key won’t? Do you have at least one working key?

My ‘07 XC70 came with 1 key/fob, the silly flip format. I successfully did the thing where I extracted and hid the rfid chip in the steering column, then I didn’t have to pay to have a second key programmed. I recommend this strategy. I bought a second antenna ring cheap on eBay so the chip and actual antenna are totally hidden, but it looks normal.

- I fix all Volvo problems at home.

- The car key is the exception: I got it from dealer, warranted for ? years (check it with dealer).

I actually figured this out, and in the correct forum. :-D Sorry, forgot to come over here and update this thread.

Answer is here: viewtopic.php?f=40&t=97499

TL;DR is:

VIDA 2015 will work with DiCE clones if you use the VDASH feature to "renumber" your DiCE unit ($20). After that, you can buy a 3-day VIDA subscription, then the key programming software, use it with clone DiCE and program your key. It's a very ugly software/subscription, not for the faint of heart, but it works in the end if you can figure out enterprise-style software and systems.
