I am about to put back the exhaust manifold with the throttle body on it. Just got this unit two years ago this month and it has made a huge difference in the car. Now, do I have to clean it? A can of throttle body cleaner is about six bucks, just for a few puffs. Break cleaner won't be a good alternative, would it?
Cheers

Throttle body cleaner can be used for many parts cleaning chores. Also good starting fluid for small lawn engines. It will be empty before you know it.

I'll grab me a can. Would be nice to clean the Throttle Body if I took it out and putting it back with a new seal.volvolugnut wrote: ↑11 Oct 2021, 18:21 Throttle body cleaner can be used for many parts cleaning chores. Replacing the TB was like night and day driving the XC.
Thanks

Brake Cleaner generally will not dissolve deposits that collect on throttle bodies and carburetors. I don't know whats in TB Cleaner but it's pretty potent stuff!

It’s just a collection of hexanes, heptanes, like light run gasoline.
I would leave that alone

The main reason to use a Throttle Body or plastic-and-sensor-safe cleaning product is that you don't want to inadvertently damage anything as you're spraying it around. I would say specifically don't use brake cleaner, instead use a cleaner specifically for throttle bodies, that notes it is safe for plastic/sensors, or a MAF sensor cleaner.
I don't recall the manufacturer, but I used the "throttle body cleaner" sold at autozone when I cleaned mine. Worked well, and no issues ~13k later:

Beautiful. It’s so tempting to just hose those down with the spray but the correct technique is to wet shop towel or hardy paper and wipe.
This stops the solvent from getting into the sides , important with electronic throttle bodies
