Hello all,
I had to put a new steering rack on my car. ZF rack, threaded lines, no power assist. Seemed simple enough to select from detroit axle. Link here : https://www.detroitaxle.com/part/rack-a ... inion/840/
Mechanic said it fit great.
The problem is: the steering shaft does not fit over the pinion on the replacement rack. I see two options for steering shafts on this car. Both different lengths 9.7 (30741950) and 9.8 inch. I have the 9.8 inch model (3409939). It doesn’t seem so much length that is the issue but more of the style of shaft on the pinion. I think Detroit Axle screwed up and this is for like maybe an 850?
Attached is a picture of the old rack. What u-joint do I need to buy here? Or does anyone know a dealer with a stellar parts department employee that would be able to help me?

Got it. You can see here that one of the shafts is flat/rectangular (currently on my car) but the other has a circular blanked off portion prior to the part where the pinion shaft goes in. That’s the one I need.
I like how Volvo’s solution for the catalogue differences for the rack/lines/shaft were just to have their dealers replace all of the components and make it a $2,500 job.

That’s not an 850/V70 rack, I don’t think.
All the racks I have seen are splines connection tot he steering wheel
