P2 XC70 rear anti-sway bar... Help me make sense of it?

Post by leapdragon »

Hi all,

Next question... The bushings on my 2007 XC70 rear anti-sway bar are a bit soggy. Looks like they're not sold separately, however.

What is sold is the entire assembly... in what looks like a dozen different variations.

I've looked at the chassis code on the "Made in Sweden" sticker using this guide: http://www.volvohowto.com/volvo-s60-s80 ... -meanings/

Based on the guide, my car is a "marked 8" unit... But most parts suppliers say this is does not match the vehicle in one way or another (not for AWD, not for 2007, etc.).

What I'm wondering is... Do they all bolt up the same, or do different variations of this sway bar physically not fit on different chassis? I'm wondering if I can just target, say, the thickest variation I can find for the P2 V70 series (they appear to have different diameters) and it will work since they all have bushings/mounts pre-attached and the bolt-on locations are the same (?), or do they have physically different geometry and can't actually be swapped and bolt up successfully?

This is the first time navigating the Volvo parts universe where I've legitimately felt like I don't know what to order.

Those only fit the IPD 25mm bar kit (at least according to the listing) which I don't have. Was hoping just to replace the rear with the Volvo OEM part... But boy is it hard to figure out which part I need. If I have to, I suppose I'll consider the IPD kit, but it seems unnecessary, esp. since I feel no immediate urge to do the front.

The bigger question I have is... If the IPD kit just fits... all the P2 XC70s with one kit... then presumably actually all the "marked 1" and "marked 2" and "marked 4" and "marked...." variations are actually bolt compatible with one another?

In which case... why are there so many variations? Anyone know?

All AWD sways bars are bolt on. You can go from your stock 14 mm to 19 mm Nivomat version or even 21 mm S60R, or 22 mm V70R. I have a latter one.

Awesome, thank you! I had this feeling that would be the case as I have the vague sense that all the P2 V70s I've been under seemed to have basically the same shaped equipment back there (though admittedly I haven't really scrutinized the rear sways previously), but I was thrown off by the care which all the parts sites and the Volvo catalogue itself seems to play the "marked 1 only" "marked 2, 4 only" etc. game.

Time to go get me some sway bar. Thanks again!
