So I’m having most all of the suspension components replaced on my (almost) 250,000-mile 2006 V70 2.5t FWD. The installer says they cannot get the ipdUSA rear anti-sway bar to fit. It’s a little over an inch longer and they say that is the issue and there’s no way to make it fit.
I spoke with Stefen (sp?) at ipdUSA, he said that is the only bar they make for the rear of my model, and that it should fit. I put the installer in touch with him, and supposedly they talked. I don’t know how extensive their conversation was, but the installer still says there’s no way it’ll fit.
So that I can get my car back after almost a month of being in the shop, I told him just to reinstall the original factory bar. Maybe I can find someone else who can properly install the ipdUSA one.
Has anyone here experienced any issues with fitment of this bar? Thanks for any advice/suggestions. I’ve cross-posted on Swedespeed also.

It's FWD ? Fcp is listing one number for all FWD but there appears to be a difference in suspension https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... 52#fitment

Is there a difference between the ipd V70 bar and the XC bar? Could there be a part # mixup from ipd, or a mislabeled box?

I’ve edited my original post to show my car as FWD. The anti-sway bar kit is from ipdUSA, not FCPEuro. Only the new end links were purchased through FCPEuro.oragex wrote: ↑29 Apr 2021, 16:08 It's FWD ? I’ve corrected my original post to show my car as FWD.
There is a difference in the FWD V70 & the AWD V70/XC70. They definitely sent the correct rear bar, as the AWD rear bar is pretty much straight, and the FWD rear bar is kinked, and that is the one I received. Above is what I ordered & received
And below is what they show for AWD. It’s the same ipdUSA model # for the XC70 too. The rear bar in this kit is straight. I definitely didn’t receive this kit.
So I don’t see that there could be a mix-up on ipdUSA’s part.

Well, the tech has already installed the OEM rear bar back on the car so that he can get everything finished up and I can get my car back tomorrow or Monday. Not that it’s been getting wrenched on every minute it’s been there, but today makes exactly 4 weeks that they’ve had it. I’d like to have it back.
He said the issue was overall length (so basically center-to-center), not front-to-back.
I guess I’ll end up looking around for an different (indie) shop to see if they’ll be willing to try installing the bar and see what their result is. The current shop is actually the Volvo dealer. I know some like to call them “stealerships”, but I feel they’ve always been fair to me on the few repairs I’ve had on this car and also on my prior car, a VW Golf TDi (it’s a combined Volvo/VW dealer). Plus they’ve always been willing to let me provide parts, which some dealers (and indies) give a hassle about and some outright refuse to do.
Over on Swedespeed, it was suggested that I measure the OEM bar’s length with a tape measure and using a helper on the other side of the car, and measure the new bar’s length & compare the two. I’ll see if I can do that once I have the car back, and post the results here.

Not unheard for aftermarket parts to get a wrong measure.

The only thing I can think off the top of my head is there’s a different bar connection to the end links from stock? But why would they do that? The geometry should be the same.
Ipd has a long and good reputation with those. I have a new XC set in the box ready to go on and I really haven’t even studied it yet.

I got a "small, private junkyard" sway bar for my FWD. and I'm happy it's kinked (not straight) as described above.
Too bad the shop didn't stand the 2 side by side.
A measurement between 2 points in space (center of a hole) might not tell the whole story.

I finally got my car back this past Monday, May 10 - a week later than they thought it’d be finished. I’ve not gotten under it to measure the (factory stock) bar length yet - we’ve had one day of rain (no garage), and then I’ve had a recurring complication, from a health issue, that rears its head every few months (I have a twisted small bowel - lots of fun!). I’ll try to get someone to hold one end of a tape measure this weekend and post lengths of both the factory OEM bar and the ipdUSA bar.
