How do you unlock the tailgate?

2004 Volvo XC. I only have the valet key and so far as I can tell when I unlock the driver door twice using the valet key all of the doors on the car unlock except for the tailgate.

I've read that there is a secret slot somewhere in the tailgate for the valet key, but I don't see it. Pictures attached. What's the trick for unlocking the tailgate?

My 2003 had it, the 2005 does not.

My 2004 doesn't seem to have that slot for the key. It doesn't have the third row seating which maybe is why. This morning the latch opened the tailgate. No major changes. It wouldn't open last night, so it's an intermittent error. Is this something I can diagnose via Vida and dice?

In my 2006 S60, the problem was the wiring loom.
Similar issue in the V70, XC70...

I wrote the details in the DIY below.
Just find the correct wiring loom for your wagon, DIY and add it to this thread below so the wagon ppl can use your help later...
