Hello all, long time,
I recently had some work done on my xc70 so I decided to spruce up the thing that was bugging me since I bought it two years ago, and that's the headlight assemblies. The driver side was cracked and yellow, the passenger side would not allow a low beam to sit in the collar unless you fiddled with it for hours (at least with my hands).
Today I started the work to pull the front bumper and replace the assemblies, and once I'd removed it, I found this inside on the passenger side. Rather than look it up elsewhere, I thought I'd give you all a shot at identifying it. As far as I can tell, the car has been fine without this, so what now?
What the hell is this?

,
I'm pretty sure you are right. I was watching a video on a XC90 bumper removal and the guy detached the tube at the yellow clip in order to free the bumper. Should be the same part for most P2's.
.

Given its proximity to the wiper fluid tank, that sounds like it to me. My guess is it was destroyed by a prior owner, the guy I’d bought it from shrugged when I asked him what the nozzles were for and I never looked into it.

Looks to me like the remains of a small electric motor.

I can see the confusion with some electrical component. However there is no wiring to there and hose connections in the bumper only suggest headlight washer system(probably the type that extends out of the bumper upon turning high pressure pump ). I think there were 3 styles of headlight washer on v70xc-xc70. Early models (probably 01-03(maybe some early 04) with headlight wipers and hoses attached to them. Later(04-05?) With just spray nozzles(might be wrong here). And later years(06-07) with pup-up design similar to newer P3 chassis.
