If you were pumping hot air in that could have messed up your idle.
I have a “ bored while stuck in traffic” thread where I documented when the fan comes on in my 1999 T5 and it was 105C or 221F, so you are okay there.
Xmodex sells a contactless ETM, the latest Volvo part number made in Sweden and/or Italy is also contactless.
That’s the path to happiness. At 1/3 cost of Xmodex

Yes, XeMODeX ETM was 100% plug and play. Super easy because they also included a replacement gasket. I replaced the MAF sensors with a Denso part when replacing the ETMs. Use a small screwdriver wedged into the screw head or pliers on the outside edge to remove the two 5-point security screws holding the MAF sensor into the laminar flow housing. Replace the security screws with regular T25 plastic thread screws for easy maintenance. Only the electronics inside the sensor go bad. The laminar flow housing is protected by the air filter and doesn't get dirty from what I have seen. I also did a manifold smoke leak test with my homemade smoke machine and air compressor. This leak test verifies that MAF output and long term air to fuel ratio trim aren't off. The 3 non-turbo V70s in my fleet haven't had intake leaks other than the small rubber elbows for attaching the small diameter plastic hoses. One of the replacement MAF sensors went bad and I ended up putting an original factory Volvo part back in after thoroughly cleaning it with MAF cleaning spray by CRC from a local auto parts store. Dirt buildup on the hot wire and thermocouple inside the MAF throws off the calibration of the MAF and it's flow reading.
Thanks for the air intake check procedure. I try to remember to vacuum out the air filter housing when I do oil changes because all the Volvos get a buildup of sand, dirt, leaves, bugs, and cottonwood under the air filter. Watching for a clean housing is a great way to verify a non-functional flap.

Hi, Apologies in advance if I'm being dumb
Want to replace the ETM on my 2001 V70 2.4 non-turbo (B5244S2)
(200,000m still with the original part - Magnetti Morelli white label)
Volvo dealers unable to assist and my local Volvo independant says it's been on backorder for months.
Can you advise a current Volvo part number for a suitable replacement?
(Or point me in the right direction for one)
The Volvo independant can do reprogramming if required.
(I'm in GB so importing Xmodex would be prohibitively expensive.)
Thanks in advance for any help.
(Typical intermittent stalling symptom when at slow speed, trailing throttle, uphill.)

The 36050563 ETM is available here in the States at $440+100 core from stock
Is your independent searching that part number? That replaces all the old part numbers.
Its a contactless from Sweden, it may require programming
Volvo Throttle Body - Genuine Volvo 36050563

Thanks for your reply, it was indeed a help.
36050563 does appear to be out of stock from my searching trade websites in Europe (not expected before 2026)!
but there also seems a lot of confusion on trade sites (part of my problem)!
some (e.g. skandix.de) say 36050563 is for turbo
while 36050564 for the non-turbo NA
Do you know are they compatible, or has skandix got it the wrong way around?
Thanks again
