Lost key 2001 s60 2.4T

Post by busteds60 »

Hi yall so I literally just bought a 01 S60 and I work in a warehouse. This is relevant. My only key fell out of my bag and into a semi trailer and is currently lost in another state. No local locksmith can make me a new key, they say that this is dealer only. Only problem is the closest Volvo dealer is 63 miles away and needs the car in person. it would likely cost me more than I paid for the car to get her towed and a new key remade. Any ways I can work around this?

- Tow the car to the dealer.
- Full service key w/o remote is about $250 (key cut, programming etc.).
- Key with remote function: $450.

Key only about $50 cut from Volvo, not programmed.

Contact yagger at auto tech in San Jose and do a remote programming of key. I don’t know what he charges other than less than dealer

Will the alarm go off with the non-programed key?

AAA plus membership - towing up to 100 miles. Pay extra if used, within 48 hours of joining.

I think dealer uses the car VIN to determine the key cut as you don't have a key and ensure that you are entitled to have a key made.

Then the new key is added (paired) to the car computer. This uses Volvos dice diagnostic connector and software, laptop plus a Volvo key enabling software licence.

This is not designed to assist car thieves and sadly will not be cheap.
