JB weld plastic repair advice needed

Post by darylrobert »

Attempting to repair my Heater temp control button. Plastic is ABS/PC, purchased an expensive product (made in the USA) JB Weld plastic.
Its been over 15hours and its not drying...will it ever dry? Package says it dries in 1 hour but longer at freezing temps. Its 80F yesterday and today 85% humidity..not freezing. In hindsight i should have tested product on scrap material before on actual repair..you can see from the picture i glues in a metal strip reinforcement which will probably break the whole thing if i try and remove   lesson learnt

It normally set pretty quickly. I have used many variants of JB Weld 2 part glues. I recall one pack where it seemed to take longer to set than others. When I reread the instructions, I had misread it. It said it set in 5 minutes, but fully hardened in 24 hours or something like that.

So unless the hardener has gone bad, or it was mixed sufficiently well, I don't know what to say. I would contact JB Weld noting the product type and ask them what is going on. I have used their plastic repair 2 part many times for P80 dashboard repairs and other plastic items.

So what i think happened was incorrect mixing ratio. At first the yellow (hardener i think) refused to come out but the clear did. I put the clear aside but being clear and hard to see, i think i accidentally mixed it in. And YES i was wearing my glasses

When it has been sitting that can happen if you are not aware of it. I have learned the hard way!
