Rust prevention in front doors on V70

Post by ibs740 »

I have swapped out 2 doors (drivers and passengers) because of salt getting behind the mid height door trim....the door ding saver.
Volvo has a hole through the door skin at the front of the moulding so that salt can migrate in behind the door skin. Even is you oil spray (I do like crazy) eventually you will see the paint bubble and the door is done.

2 approaches;
I've successfully done both.
1. Pop the trim and seal the hole then use 3M double sided trim tape to reattach.
2. tape off a narrow band between the door paint and the moulding and use a high quality sealer/caulking (I've used seam sealer successfully). #2 is by far the fastest. I did #1 after noticing a tiny paint bubble under the moulding where the mounting hole is.

Designing a hole under a door moulding is as bad a design as access to the low/high beams on a 2005+ P2 V70. Yes did that yesterday.
