2007 S60 2.5T Key & Mobilizer Function

1) If the Chip is glued or taped in the steering column how close does it have to be to the ring?

2) Can the car be locked and unlocked as normal and alarm set?

3) Average cost to cut blank? Purchsed 2 blanks on eBay.

I found on my 1999 I had to use an extra antenna ring and taped the key in under the dash. You can pop a code for “ key in too long” but my recollection was this did not turn on the check engine light.

On a P80, I have had a key hidden under the dash for over 12 years since I got the remote start fitted. Never had an issue with the remote start function. Never thought to get a couple of new keys cut without chips to see if it will work without chips being programmed.

Last night I was concerned as my mechanic buddy dropped it on me he planned to drop by today to do the water pump and timing belt on the 06 V70. I have not reassembled the key he was using that had the broken flip mechanism. I tried holding the transducer close to the antenna and start the car with the blade only. It did not want to know. I then used the other fob and key to make sure it worked and all was ok.

I then put the key blade into the fob end and held the 2 parts of the fob end around the blade temporarily clamped together. Car started no problem. Small test but it seemed to me that the key blade may have to be close to the transducer ship to work on a P2. Maybe I somehow did this wrong but I don't think so.
