Intermittent power loss at lower RPM - '04 V70 D5

Post by fantajuice »

As subject states - low RPM power loss intermittently. From 1000rpm to about 3000rpm there's absolutely no turbo function and from 3000-5000rpm turbo picks up (but isn't full power).
Usually happens after I've gone through a 2-3 gear shift (manual gearbox) when overtaking someone or just building up speed and revving up to about 4000rpm. After that it decides it doesn't need power anymore and feels like limp mode. Isn't actual limp mode because there's not RPM limiter. Turning off and on the engine doesn't do anything.
After that happens, only way to temporarily fix it until next time is to (from standstill) basically "drag race" the car, 1-2 gears max gas up to like 4500rpm. After that it just suddenly picks up the turbo at low rpm range again.
No fault codes in the engine.
Started after looking for boost leaks and cleaning the MAF sensor (because it was very soot covered). Before this it intermittently randomly gave a boost leak fault code and went into actual limp mode that restricted the car to 2.5k rpm.

Replaced the MAF as it was the only thing we touched, issue still persists.
