Finally had some time to try my new Bluetooth OBD2 tester. It is a Mucar BT200 unit and other than having to get my daughter to point out my inabilities with software issues to rival my electrical testing challenges, I had not had a chance to try it out.
After a little prodding from the tool to use it correctly, it actually did read the Vin# and brought up 8 DTC's, none of which are showing on the dashboard info panel. I'm still not sure if you have to have the car running or not or just in the PosII. It says to start the car to run the checks. Maybe it is to stop battery drain?
I think 4/8 are all down to linked errors caused by the key fob after I replaced the case. The battery holder was not the greatest in the cheap aftermarket unit. Hopefully after a 2nd rebuild it will be ok.
2 ABS codes for brake pressure sensor signal errors. I do feel the brake pedal is soft compared to the 06 XC70, so I will do a flush first and I have also asked Volvo if there is anyway to check if the car has had the BCM update to widen the acceptable signal tolerances. Volvo apparently set these too tightly initially so it would throw false codes. The BCM-0133/0136 codes may be genuine, but I know a brake fluid flush can help reduce the issue, and hopefully my friends at the local dealership can find out if the update has been done.
The remaining errors are the uncleared one for the fuel pressure sensor that went bad and has been replaced but the code not erased and the other one is for the radio not recognized (changed many years ago).
My new Vida copy has died as the external SSD it was on died after less than 6 months and not a lot of use. The supplier is kindly sending out a replacement which is a couple of days out. Might have to go drag the steam powered laptop and Vida out of retirement in the interim!
I will need to use the Mucar a lot more to see how accurate it is. It would make it very handy for remote checks when the laptop is not around like at auctions.
Neil.
