Single FCP Stabilus hood strut. OE for Volvo. Old is 18th day of 07 and new one is 299th day of 24. Will see how long it takes to break in as it's not smooth going up and down. Could be the strut was (faulty) designed too short and carrying too much weight.

I carry a short piece of wood like this in the trunk (quarter round molding for baseboard at home)...

I use this piece of wood when I do engine work...
