Nivomat boots 1387105

Post by foggydogg »

Thought I had posted this here, but it ended up on the P2 board.
It seems official, 1387105 boots are not available in the Volvo USA system, and according to the six (6) parts managers at various Volvo Agencies I spoke with on the phone, they are unlikely to be again, ever. Lots of webstores still show them in their online catalog, I even placed a couple of orders; but, just like placing an order for them with Tasca, within days (or hours) the order is cancelled, refund(s) pending.
Skanix.de still lists them, they showed 8 on inventory last time I checked, but as I mentioned in an earlier post, minimum shipping from Europe is 125 euros.

Buy them all and sell them on to cover your cost?

The dealer I spoke to gave me the impression they were available but had to come from Sweden. It is disappointing to hear that a part used on several older Volvo models is no longer available. Guess we have to see if we can find some kind of alternative.

I wish you luck.

I do not currently have the part number to hand, but the gaiters for 2/7/9XX Nivomats are still available in the UK and are a perfect fit. As with the US there is no stock of the P80 gaiters, but you may find stock of the 2/7/9XX ones.

I've also mentioned this previously in a related thread, but motorcycle fork gaiters are readily available on eBay for pennies (cents?) and work just as well. We Brits have been resorting to this for almost a decade now.

That’s why there will always be an England.

There are so many different kinds of boots for vehicles, someone is making something that will work.

Apologies to Alison, boots translates from the British gaiters here.

One way to start, measure and document, here, the hole sizes at each end, and the overall length. Then people can measure other applications and find fits

The part number in the thread header is for the brick series shock gaiter , the Nivomat boot may not have ever been listed separately in the States; Corporate may have considered it to be non-serviceable in the field.
The biggest issue here with 'bike gaiters is getting exact dimensions for each opening off of a webpage. Most listings are very helpful on which color you would like, so you can Profile for the admiring crowd, or they list the exterior dimensions so you know how big the box will be.
Once I'm done with this round of the Healthcare crowd 'practicing' medicine, I'll dig a little deeper on a workaround. A few steering rack numbers look promising.

And to Neil's point, I had also talked with a few Parts Desk folks, some of whom repeated the back-order/3-6 week-wait phrase, and I promptly placed the order, only to have them cancel shortly after. The Tasca order was bounced about ten minutes after I closed the page.
While I did think about buying the stock from Skandix,, if it was only 6-8 pieces, it would've made the unit price over $35.
This is all presuming I can actually convince the replacement Nivo to give up its grip on the end piece. It is Almighty Stuck. I did get the end off the old one, not easily, but without much drama. It helped that I didn't care if I scarred the shaft.
Back to the workaround.
