Later today I will snake a camera into the drain hole of the one I have on the bench to see where the screen is and what it looks like. Should be black. Car did not move.

Tried camera
. Could not really identify anything. I will stick a coat hanger wire in there and see if I can feel the screen.

Thanks about the thread sealant tip Cuhfs.
Not totally convinced that's a stainless mesh. Pics provided by Nautic make it appear to be a nylon composite or something more fabrics like. Almost similar to a cabin filter in appearance. Nautic do you recall the material used?
Great idea putting solvent into the cooler hose. It depends on the entrance point location of the cooler line. It may help clean the filter at just ONE point over a small area but it can't clean the entire surface area of the filter.
I've decided to drill in the morning. I think I'll be able to tell what it's made from by the feel of it when my skewer pushes against it. If the skewer breaks through easily I'll be breezing. If it's like hitting a brick wall I'll need to manoeuvre the skewer to the edges to try to dislodge it.
By the way my bolt is M12 (not M10) and I edited my post to suit. Hope an 11mm hole is big enough.

Great news. I was able to open the bell cover on my bad trans that I have on the bench. Took filter out and I cut a hole in it. I did not make a big enough hole in the plastic filter yet. I cut about a half in by 1 inch. I agree, at first look it seems like nylon. I actually used a small drill to cut the plastic open using small holes next to each other. I mention this because the bit penetrated the screen effortlessly. I need to cut it open bigger.

Some Pics. But need to get a piece of filter fabric to see what chemical can dissolve it too. Let me know what you think I should do next??

Is that the 5 speed transmission Cuhfs? What year is the C70?
Just want to be sure we're comparing apples with apples as that filter neck looks shorter than the one photographed by Nautic or it could be the shooting angle.
If it is a 5 speed can you shoot a full width pic of the lower casing?
Also is it possible to drill into the bell housing if it were fitted? My goal is to drill near the pick-up neck so I don't need to drill a hole in the filter at all. Do you feel that the mesh goes the full width of the filter or is it just located near the intake neck?

Should have read your signature Cuhfs. 2001 makes it a 5 speed.
Acetone will chew through as well as turpentine for paints if it isn't steel with any luck.

Pics. 2004 C70 Automatic Transmission. Car would get hot and not move due to this problematic transmission. I swapped in a low milege one and a new valve body and sold the car. Phone does not take great pics. Sorry.
Drain plug top to bottom is 5" but figure about 1/2 extra space from the separation of the two sections (so it is really about 4.5 inch from top of drain plug to base.)
