Hello Everyone , I am a newbie to this site but not to Volvo. I have a question about a rattle I have found to be what looks like a support , or rail, or drain that it is the width of my sunroof and rattles when its open and is in the sunrooof housing at the the back end. I have found that it looks as though it was attached to the sunroof glass because it has a smooth but uneven texture on one side like an epoxy or glue was use to attach it to the glass. It also is a bit curved forom end to end.
First, am I correct, and second should I just buy a new one and reattach it or can I reattach the existing one. As a side note the sunroof glass has what looks like a serated or toothed look to at th rear of the glass is this where it would attach?
thanks for all and any help!

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
The attached shows the parts for the sunroof and the only one I can see answering your description is part #12 which should be attached to part #11. Part #28 is a sealing strip which attaches to the glass but it goes around the whole glass not just the rear.
Bill.

I have the same problem. The thing was just sitting loose in the rear drain channel pan rattling away. It's just sitting in my trunk now. I'm pretty sure that it is supposed to be glued to the bottom rear of the drain channel pan. I guess this because the glued side has a few irregularly spaced rectangular impressions that match up to the indentations at the rear of the channel pan. My only concern is that the bend does not match the contour of the pan, suggesting that glue (epoxy?) would likely not hold it. Please let us know if you get it figured out. Thanks...
Ok, So I knew I was buying a used car and thought I looked it over thoroughly, but I have to admit it appears I missed the spring loaded wind deflector on the front side of the sunroof as well.....shame on me!
Is it a requirement or a nice to have?
I have found a second bar as previously described for the back, on the front width as well....
any further suggestions are welcomed!
Thanks,

Thanks,
I bought mine used and it too was missing the wind deflector. No worries. I did choose to buy an aftermarket plexiglass deflector, which is both functional and sharp looking. I'm think when the sunroof is open, it helps to reduce the rear passengers' wind conditions and probably reduces wind noise as well.
Thanks for the reassureance , I feel a little better about my miscues.....I think the bars, which I am reading are for the stiffness of the glass, are more important and how to re-apply them is a challenge....
Just an update.....I have stripped all of the epoxy off of both support bars which also took off all of the small rubber like insulaters that act like bumpers between the glass and the metal bars.......the next step is to repaint the bars on the side that shows in the cabin, remove the glass and reattach the bars using a 200 degree heat resitant expoxy for metal to glass. I am using small blocks of wood and (5) 1 inch C lamps to hold one bar at a time...and replacing the insulaters with cut pieces of plumbers gasket (reddish in color and about the same thickness as OEM)
I'll advise as I go for those who want to know how it works out....Thanks!

Ok all the epoxy is off and I have cleaned any residue of the stripper with mineral spirits. The bars have been repainted and I will remove the glass and re-attach the support bars this weekend.....
Stipper used was a sprayable "Klean Strip Premium Sprayable Stripper" a quart with the spray bottle is suffcient. Bought it at Home Depot in the paint section - stock item
Hope all this effort pans out and clears up the flex and wind noise in the sunroof......will keep everyone posted.

Ok, Sunroof is out ..not a big deal pull down the aprons on either side and four screws removes the glass....had a fun time with getting the glass to bend enough to get both bars on at the same time. Doing it one at a time only allowed the glass on the opposite side to bend enough to keep the new epoxy from setting up so both sides have to be down together ....(12) 1 inch clamps about every 4-5 inches does the trick. I am allowing it to setup properly and will send a picture or two when complete..
Thanks
Thanks
