Hello there, they are to much "WHY":
1.Safety, the day Volvo put on the road first car with "SIPS", other car producer try to copy, but wasn't the same (only new Ford have the same )
2. Endurance. Strong, no rust, buletproof engine
3. Fashion. Take a 1998-2001 C70 and drive around in the summer.
PS: my beauty have 238.000 mile ( only mobil 1)

Im shocked that only one other mentioned how the doors close,,,,, it actually sounds like theres something there. Not like a pop can opening. I first had a 740 gle with a billion miles on it, the seats where still comfortable everything worked except the air (amazing I know) the only thing that was wrong was that it had a slight shake in the stearing I changed everything, took it too a mechanic he checked everything and put on a set of true steel wheels and it was still there, i drove it till i couldnt handle it and sold it. I bought the 850 because of the seats and because i like the quick brick termanology. its quick fun comfortable and safe what more could ya want in a car?
95 850 turbo....poly upper mount, 19t turbo, 3" downpipe, 2.25 custom exhaust w/magnaflow cat. bilstein struts/shocks,Ipd hd mounts and seats. vented cross drilled rotors F/B. and lastly an Alpine H/U,and hopefully more to come!!!
My old "beater" Mazda was on it's last leg and a friend of mine with a lot traded in a FLAWLESS one owner 98 V-90 wagon with right at 130K. I saw it and asked how much he fired back a price I was not expecting ( $4K out the door) so I drove her. I had never even so much as ridden in a Volvo till then and it shocked me how tight and solid it felt with 130 K.
I took it home that day and never looked back.
I am a Realtor and play in a band so a big classy wagon was perfect for my needs.
I LOVE the fact that the design is simple and I can actually work on the thing. That + with what I have found on line so far most parts are cheaper than my wifes Chrysler 300M and I can actually get to things under the hood to repair without dissasembling half the car!!
I'm HOOKED guys!
I'm looking hard at finding a V or S 940 turbo to try and tweek for some serious HP (goal is 450 +). I miss my 71 GTO!!
Here is my 98 V-90

I guess it all started for me years ago when I was in college and driving a 1973 Subaru (don't ask.) I worked at the library at the University of Southern California and, after my Subaru broke down, one of the librarians -- he was British -- commented on the virtue of Volvos. With a nostalgic mist in his eye, he described the Volvo as a "proper motorcar" with enough room for four full-size adults and their luggage.
Shortly thereafter, I bought my first Volvo: a 1983 240 DL with about 80,000 miles on the clock.
It was, indeed, a "proper" motorcar: straight up and down, with a cheerful disregard for aerodynamics, trendiness, or weight. You could be 6 foot six, wearing a fedora, and still have head room.
The manual shift knob, instead of having the usual crappy painted numbers, was instead cast in two colors of plastic, white and black, so the numbers would never wear off. I loved that quality.
I kept the car until it had 240,000 miles on it. Then, due to a hand injury, I could no longer drive a stick shift. So I sold it, and bought... an automatic 1994 Volvo 940. Which I still have.
I like my 940, but I have to say I still miss my 240.
