97 850 t5 Not starting and flsashers going

Post by mcbeav »

My wife went out to start our 1997 Volvo 850T5 Wagon. It would not crank at all. I came out and the four way flashers were going. The code light on the radio was on as if the battery was unplugged. I tried to jump it from our other car and the starter would not crank. Any ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like the alarm was tripped and it's still in alarm mode.

From the outside, lock/unlock car.

Then try to start it normally. If she doesn't fire, it's a dead battery issue from that point forward, and you should proceed from there.

That is where I was leaning towards. The battery is low on juice so I will wait until my other car gets home and try and jump it. One thing that it did do is cause my faulty clock to start working and not resetting itself. I will see if that lasts.

Thanks

Jumped the car and it starts. Battery is not being recharged after driving for over 1/2 hour. Clock is still resetting itself. The battery checks out as fine but low. Alternator is putting out but according to the test , just above the minimum. Should I have them recharge the battery completely before trying anything else?

You need a new battery, if I had to guess.

Tried to have the battery recharged and it did not after a couple of hours on the charger. Retested battery and found it was bad. Went and bought a new battery and everything is fine now except the clock keeps resetting itself. The funny thing is the battery was new in Feb. Because I bought the battery with the car, the Autolite distributor would not warranty it.

Thanks for thehelp
