Hi,
I own a Volvo S40 1.6 yr2000, recently the camshaft timing valve on the inlet manifold developed a fault. While the car was idling, the solenoid repeatedly opened and closed, stopped briefly, and started again. I replaced the valve plus gasket but the fault is still present. Nobody seems to know the cause - so any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
Did you clear the diagnostic trouble code?
Bill.

+1 for what Bill said on clearing the codes.
If it is still doing the same thing, then I would say your pulley itself needs to be changed. We sell a bunch of exhaust side pulleys for this year and model. Part number 6900015 is the pulley. Not as easy to change as the solenoid
