How to make the transmission last in 2001 XC70
Purchased this XC70 used off a used car lot had carfax one owner. 91,000 miles after reading some articles on the internet I became concerned about my transmission. It was shifting up and down when climbing a slite hill around 37 to 40 mph. Will have a slight clunk when in stop and go traffic when you let off the gas. Just to be safe took it to Volvo had them drive it and they didn't notice anything. I had them do a transmission flush at the tune of $250.00 and I think things are fine. Is there just a bunch of bad trannys out there and if you slipped thru the cracks and got a good one your ok....Any advice Really don't want to shell out $5000.00 for a transmission.

I sure hope the stop neutral software was removed and you got the latest software when you had the flush done.
Ask them if it has the latest software in the car now.
Ask them if they reset the adaptions and did a new drive cycle
All of this should be done at the time of a full flush

Volvo did the flush, and they told me I had the current software on board.JRL wrote:I sure hope the stop neutral software was removed and you got the latest software when you had the flush done.

I have notice some of the car reviews on line were complaining about the same thing that I was having a problem with around 37 to 40 MPH it can't decide what gear it wants to be in fourth or fifth and that usually occurs around 1700 rpm. Even If they didn't reset the adaptions if I disconnected the battery a while back to install a new battery doesn't that zero everything out.

AisinWarner makes good transmissions. If you have a flare (RPMs go up) from 2nd to 3rd there is a updated part available. If it clunks or goes into drive delayed a updated valvebody/harness would cure. The neutral slip function was for EPA and can be felt when coming to a stop and take-off from a stop. That takes specific software on top of the upgrade to remove function. Most likely it has been removed though.

I'm not sure the tranny size lines are 5/16. Reading the Transmission flush directions, the directions say for P2 cars the hose's outer diameter (OD) should be 1/2, which makes the inner diameter (ID) 3/8. A 5/16 ID would be a thick holes.
I'm actually planing on installing one soon. It looks easy on the 02 S60. The tranny line running to the upper radiator are rubber with metal ends, so it should be a cut and install operation.
Let me clarify the, the directions found here, updated by MadeInJapan for P2 cars, require an OD of 1/2. IPDUSA kit use a 1/2 inner because there direction flush from the outlet line of the transmission, before the cooler.
