Thinking of replacing my stock springs with IPD's sport springs. I want a sportier feel, and a lower center of gravity. I replaced struts/shocks with Koni sports last winter, but kept the original springs. I know how to replace the front springs, but have not found a write-up on replacing the rear springs. Anything out there for replacing rear springs. (with pics?)
Thanks

Not an easy job. but u can try.
u need;
size 18, 12, 15 box socket with the rachet
- get access to the rear shocks upper mounting area (inside car). on wagon, remove all the boards. on sedan, pry open the cover behind rear seat.
- remove the 2 size 12 bolts that mount the shocks upper mounting to the body. upon removal of these bolts, yr shocks should popping up of its place.
- block front tires and jack up rear. place jack on the transverse arm mounting bolt (right under rear door area). support with floor jacks.
- remove tires.
- get under the car. with size 18, remove the shock lower mounting nuts. carefuly pry off the shocks.
- remove the nuts securing the self locking studs under the lower spring seat. remove the studs by knocking from bottom and remove the seat plate.
- get a helper to step on the rear brake rotor to pull the transverse arm as low as possible.
- pull-off the springs.
- installation - please use common sense. but make sure the lower part of the spring (where the coil begins) must be at the original place. because the seating position is angled, if you installed wrongly, u might get one side of the car is "higher" than another. adjust accrodingly before you secure back the spring seat stud.

IPD sport springs on the way......still can't find any good write-ups with pics for replacing the rear springs. I've done the fronts before, so no ploblem. Does the tire have to come off to do rear spring replacements?
Is is just one bolt under the spring that has to come off?
Please chime in if you have done this....

if have access to any lifting device that can lift the car to make tires 1feet off the ground, then u dont need to remove the tire. if you dont, just remove it. it will ease your job save your time.

I have replaced the rear springs and found it very easy. You don't even have to compress them when removing. I followed the Haynes manual instructions which are usually not that good but was fine for the spring replacement.

I have a huge problem with this procedure....how do you tighten the nut on the bottom bolt of the spring seat????
The bolt on my bottom seat just spins while I try to tighten up the the nut. There is nothing I can grab onto to help with this. Any tips on this?
