+/- Cruise Control Button Is Stuck - 2002 S60

Post by Toms S60 »

The +/- cruise control button on the steering wheel of my 2002 S60 seems to have gotten dislodged somehow. The top of the button (the +) is jutting out and to the right a little bit & the bottom is canted to the left and is sunk in a little.

When I press the +, there is no give and eventually the horn honks from being pressed so hard. The - just feels slack.

Are there springs underneath the button? If so, it feels like they have gotten out of alignment & jammed.

Anyone experienced this and know how to fix it?

I took matters into my own hands and used a thin screwdriver to dislodge and pop out the +/- button. It took quite a bit of pressure to get it off.

The cause of the problem was pretty obvious when I got the button off. On the bottom side of the button there was a knob that makes contact with the set/accelerate switch when the "+" is pressed. But the knob that is supposed to make contact with the coast switch when the "-" is pressed had broken off and gotten wedged under the top left hand corner of the button.

I just removed the broken knob & popped the button back on. Now the set/accelerate works again, but the coast function does not. I'll try to glue the broken knob back on, but even if I can't get it stay on, I can live with it the way it is.

At least my cruise works again. My 50 mile commute to work would suck without cruise control.
