All of mine (Bosch) have come out of the box closer to 0.038 to 0.040. I always check but the OEM Volvo plugs were fairly close out of the box.

Damn. Maybe I should pull the plugs and check the gap?

Wouldn't hurt. You might improve the smoothness/gas mileage of the engine.

Bosch Super Plus 7955 is the new product number for the Bosch copper. If you read the box, it does contain some iridium or uranium  or something else in it also, but it is a single prong, primarily copper plug. I'm running them in both mine and there is no problem.
Are these ok for a Turbo?

They work great but you will need to change them out after about a year. At around $1.00 each it falls into the "who cares" category though.

heres my experience.I bought my 98 xc from a used car lot,its in great shape and low miles,we came to an agreement on a price, check eng light comes on before I take delivery of the car.The lot owner says he will fix, misfire code, car had recent tune up.says its fixed, light back on.long story short this goes on for 2 weeks they finally sent the car to the dealership for repairs,$600 dollar tune up later code gone never to return.dealership told him it was caused by none factory plugs, the guy can't believe it but is happy its fixed and the car was leaving his lot.I told him to look up misfire on any volvo forum web site and he would find that this is indeed true,he seemed to feel a little better said he thought the dealer was pulling his leg.I don't think he will be selling any more volvos,he did cover the cost of the repairs.good people.

I called my Canadaian tire here and they said that the plug for my car is a Champion copper plus RC9YC anyone heard of that?(2 for $5)
And my Auto store has the Bosch super plus 7955 for 3.49 each .I think I'l try them and see how they work stuffs a bit more pricey up here!

I also called Napa they said that one of the plugs listed for my car is a Champion copper plus 344 comes gaped at.28 and is a oe type plug any info on this?

So I have been searching with the numbers I have gotten from my parts places here.If I go to the Champion spark plug site and put in RC9YC plug the one I was told was for my car by Canadian Tire. This is what I get Champion Traditional spark plug 344 (stock #) RC9YC (part#) #$$ is what NAPA had listed as the correct plug. The Champion site lists applications and this is what it says for my car VOLVO 850 TURBO (1996) 2.3LL5 B5234T .And here is the discription of the plug from Champion ...14mm Thread, 19mm (3/4") Reach, 5/8" (16mm) Hex Size, Gasket Seat, Resistor','2','1')">Resistor, Copper Core, Projected Tip, Heat Range 9 .So will this work or is it just them putting out something just to replace what they don't make any more? And if it's the heat range then why not go to a RC7YC exact same plug but with a 7 heat range.
But now if I use this chart the heat ranges are different for each manufacturer.A bosh 7 is the same as a champion 9 the same as a ngk 6.

It is good to see a fellow Bluenoser here.
I live in Maitland and travel to Bedford every day.
There is a site in Ontario where you can order online and pay no duty. Auto Parts Way.
The plug recommended is a NGK BKR6E. Available at the local Crappy Tire.

I always gap what ever it says in the owners manual.
I would be more apt to go with what any auto parts store recommends on the plugs except Autozone And Advanced.......Former Autozone Store Manager.....

There computers are set up to list the Most profitable items at the Top of Screen not that it is the best. NAPA and some of the others who service mostly commercial shops don't do business that way. They know that customer won't come back if the start sell half as crap to them.
If the plug that is in it is working ok, pull one see what part number it is and go buy some more. P.S. When it comes to the guy behind the counter
His experience behind that counter might be six months and he just repeats what the guy next to him says about, Bosch, Or Champion being the best plug out there because that's what his uncle Elmer runs is his Studebaker pick up truck.........

OK, now this is getting personal:
Champion being the best plug out there because that's what his uncle Elmer runs is his Studebaker pick up truck.
I actually had a 1960 Studebaker Lark at one low point in my life. What a pile of crap it was with a "three on the tree" shifter but it wouldn't quit - much like my International Scout with a 345 V8. At least the Scout had a floor shifter.

I guess I am into cars that will run forever which led me to Volvo.

I can't remember what spark plugs I used on the Studebaker but I can assure you that they weren't Bosch or Denso.

This thread is getting like preferences on blondes, brunettes, or redheads or what your favorite oil is. For the record, my preference is brunettes - I'm not even going to comment on oil.
