hesitates at 4000rpm in 3rd

94 940 turbo
car drives dwn the road at 55 fine but, put your foot into it and at about 65 and 4000 rpm it just hangs there without shifting, let off the pedal and it does shift.
also from standing start and firm acceleration it hangs at 45mph and 4000 rpm.
did not get any trouble codes with pin in #2 position.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

I understand that your problem is the transmission not shifting as well as a possible problem with acceleration.

By the symptoms I would suggest that you check the transmission fluid. for level, colour and smell.

The fluid should be red and not smell of burning. If it is brown and smells burnt then it should be changed.
