So yesterday Ford announced that Geely, a Chinese car company known as the cheapest car company in the country was very close to closing the deal on purchasing Volvo.
Thoughts? I wonder how this will effect the availability of parts, since 99% of us don't buy the Chinese crap and only buy OEM, which for now is made in Europe.

I saw that. I was hoping to purchase a brand-new XC70 one day when life was treating me better. Now my thoughts can be summed up thusly:

A lot of the newer volvos are made in china already, the S40, S60, and C30. Also I read somewhere a lot of the parts on the ones made in Europe are Chinese outsourced.
Welcome to the global economy! If I were rich I'd buy up about 10 850's and store them to be used as parts cars to keep mine going. This is sad, Volvo was an icon of quality. The Chinese will use the technology and strip away all semblance of quality. I need to hurry up and find a P1800, there is one with almost 3 million miles on it driving around the US. That should last me awhile.

If they move engineering and management to China it's all over. Stick a fork in it.
Otherwise I hold hope it might work: China owns the company, gets the profits and hosts manufacturing, and the spirit remains Euro quality/safety.

Well, as stated the key (for all of us enthusiasts) is staying true to the Volvo heritage regardless of who ends up owning the company or where it's manufactured. After all, the very American GM absolutely destroyed Saab.
Who owns or has a stake in what automobile manufacturer is a virtual jigsaw puzzle in todays world. It truly is a global economy and so I believe (or at least hope) it is possible.
Despite our (justified) doubts, China has come a long way. At one time "Made in Japan" carried the same reputation, then is was "Made in Taiwan". Now it's China. And look, Japan has a well earned reputation for quality and technology.
