Reading Codes

Post by nglines »

Hello Everyone,
I have a 2001 S40 with the check engine light on. My question is were do you connect the code reader? I have one I bought 5 years ago, do all the OBD11 readers work with Volvos? Thanks.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

The Data Link Connector (DLC) is on the left side of the centre console for LHD and right side for RHD cars. It is low down and about level with the accelerator pedal.

In the UK very few of the cheaper OBD11 readers work on Volvos but I understand there isn't a problem in the US.

Thanks for the info.I have just started working on the S40 myself. Before we always took it to the dealer for service. last time they did not clean the battery and my wife was stuck on the freeway off ramp in the middle of the lane with a dead car.
