Something like that did help, although it is difficult to spin the assembly without the wheel. The lug nuts can not hold the rotor on snugly without the rim in between. The lug bolts are too long without it and poke all the way through and stop free spinning. I did however turn it while holding the rotor on snugly. The sound is definately coming from the inside of the rotor, towards the top. Either the parking break shoes or the dust sheild.
I think I'll try taking the parking brake shoes off and listen for the rub.
Also wondering about this "6th hole". Not lug bolt size. A smaller threaded one.
The hub has it. The rotor has it. But I have nothing to screw into it. Makes it seem like my rear wheel assembly is missing a piece.

Are you saying that without the wheel on the rotor is loose? That is definitely not good.

The smaller threaded hole is likely for what I will call a locator pin....
if the pin were there it would fit into a hole in the wheel such that the
wheel is put on in the same position every time it is removed and put
back on. good luck, Phil

The wheel is not loose on the rotor.
If the wheel is REMOved than the rotor is not being held on by the lugs.
If lugs are inserted to hold rotor on tight enough to evenly spin, then they go through and stop the spin. Thus it's hard to really spin the assembly as you suggest without the wheel and lugs holding it all together.
In any case I am now sure it's the e-brake that's scraping. I took the shoes off and put the wheel back on and sound was gone. Smooth spin for once.
Now I don't know what to do aside from leaving the shoes on that side off.
My only idea is that the e-brake shoes are warped somehow as to scrape and new ones may be in order.

The rotor is held on by its own bolt(s), can't remember how many. To remove the rotor you have to remove the bolts that hold it in place. These are not the wheel lugs. There is no reason for the rotor to be loose with the wheel off.

I truly appreciate everyones responses and attempts to help me figure this out.
My rotors are most definately held on by the lug bolts. There are no other holes or way that they could be held on to the hub.
Maybe you are imaging the type of wheel where the lug bolts/studs stick out of the hub and you put the rotor on them. These are not those kind. These kind have separate lug bolts that you screw in through the wheel/rim and the rotor into the hub. That is what holds the rotor tightly to the hub.

I'm willing to bet you are missing the 10mm retaining bolt that holds the rotor to the car. From your pictures it looks like you have the hole where it fits into. I've had my wheels off plenty of times and I've never had loose rotors. That's really weird though that you're missing it. lol

Yeah. I've wondered about the 6th smaller threaded hole in the hub.
Where can I get the right bolt for those?
I have read in various posts that it was just for making sure you always put the rotor/wheel on the same way. Not sure how it would tighten the rotor down since there are no threads in that rotor hole, just in the hub hole.
When I take the wheel off, the only thing holding the rotor on is the brake caliper/pads.
The rotor is NOT loose though, once I put the wheel and lug bolts on.

You should be able to get that stud from any dealer but that is not your problem.
