ECC Blower Question - 97 850 GLT

Post by csteer »

Hi All

My ECC blower fan had been intermittently squealing for the last couple of years, so I thought I would lube the bearings. I did this about a week ago. When I turned on the ECC this evening I could smell an electrical burning smell coming from the blower. When I turned the selector to defrost the windscreen the blower spooled up to full speed and then died.

I am wondering whether I just need to replace the blower motor or did I damage something more in the ECC ?

Cheers

Ceri

Your blower motor is most likely Tango Uniform. If it was squealing, you need a new one anyway.
You may also have a bad power stage, but I'd swap in a new motor first.
The ECC control module itself is most likely just fine.

I installed a salvaged blower, lasted 25,000 miles / 9 months.
Then, a $70 eSlay copy, that works fine.

The old [second] unit squealed for a while, and eventually kicked up an incredible racket. The front bearings were completely missing by the time it completely failed. After taking the old unit apart, I'd be more inclined to replace the motor only with the correct motor, if I had the time.

So, I bought a new blower from FCP Groton and installed - problem solved. Blower Resistor apparently fine
