V70 2.4T 2001 Is a sealant need for the intake gasket?

Post by rwadstein »

I am in the process of replacing my oil trap and am going to replace the intake gasket as well.
But I was wondering if any sealant is needed on intake gasket when putting the new one on?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

intake gasket goes on dry (without sealant)

This doesn't mean that you can't just that it is not required. The issue is how close you are to the head. Intake gasses with fuel do blow back past the gasket (yes I know where the injector is but look at the contaminents in the manifold and you will understand) so technically you would need a sealant that can withstand fuel. When a customer wants a sealant on the gasket (rare-mostly high hp motor builds) I apply Hylomar as it is fuel resistant and reseats itself well.

On my car and most others it is done dry unless I see an irregularity of the mating surfaces.

Thanks for the info. I ended up putting it on dry and everything works like a charm!! (so far) :-). I hope the new oil trap will solve my oil problem.

Once again, Thanks

Rolf
