As I understand it the reader has to be a Volvo scan tool which is quite expensive if you can even find one. I'm willing to bet that it is cheaper to have Volvo read it for you. In fact sometimes they for free...or at least they did for me. lol

Id love to know where you went! even if I had to drive to cali it beats the almost 300$ *ok well maybe not* the volvo dealership nearest to me wanted to charge. 100 for a diagnostic, and 200 to fix it if it was the problem. *this was back when my blower motor worked when it wanted to*

I would suggest removing the cabin air temperature sensor, disassembling it, lubricating the bearing and blowing out any dust in it, then putting it back in. I eventually got a used one because of faulty electronics in mine but if the little fan jams not only will it be "angry" at you but it will not be able to hold cabin temperature very steadily as it ruins the hysteresis of the sensor.

No,you can't use generic code readers for anything else than the engine codes.
But...you can buy cheaply vol-fcr program or cracked version of it +interface cable and read codes from all ecu's in the car,including engine codes if you have motronic 4.4 ecu.

I heard that cracked version of vol-fcr can be dowloaded from the internet for free,and then you just buy a cable(interface)for around 20$.

That year does. 4.3 was '95 and older.

Before you spend $$ on dealer scan tools or online software, try spraying compressed air into the slots above the front grab handles. In many cases the fans get seized up due to dirt and dust, etc. When you clean them out it woill hopefully take care of the blinking lights.

Oh, I not going to run out and sink a bunch a cash in that kind of stuff now.

Anyway, the lights only flashed that one time. I'll hit the sensors with the air over this weekend.

In fact,there are some earlier '96 models which have motronic 4.3.Later '96 to '97 models have motronic 4.4.

You can know for sure if engine components are the same like on s,v,c70 from '97-'99.Like this:
-fuel pressure regulator is not vacuum controlled like all 850's have,it's self regulated and it's called fuel pressure damper
-you have air pump
-pcv box number is 1271988,not 9146756 like all 850's have
-you have just one fuel line(there is no return line)attached at fuel rail

And how do you all know all this stuff? Where do you find it?
